Corporate production Essay

Hello fellow internet users.

A corporate film is a production to promote, train, or to inform the audience about an organisation, for example they are used for educational purposes, or to give the audience an important inspirational message to sell it's product in a positive manner.

Codes and conventions

When analysing a corporate film the codes and conventions you are reviewing are style, content, form, representation of social groups and message of a film. An example of a corporate film would be a message which was sent by Thames Tideway Tunnel called You Poo Too.

The style which has been used within this corporate film would be child lead, by doing this the representation which is being lead is able to connect to a younger audience as they will feel as if they can connect more strongly than if the presenter was a man between 25-40 years old. They have used a softer voice to speak out an important message to the people that live in London causing the audience to stop and think about how they are treating the river themes and how they are able to help out. This corporate film sends a message saying that with every one person leaves the themes with 140 Kilos of poo a year with a system which was created to cover for only 200 million people, causing it to over flow when it rains, leading them to team up and build a much larger sewage that will take years to build. By using a young girl to sell this information to it's audience it can also cause the older generation to stop and think of how they are treating their system. In this corporate film they have also used a form of animation showing animated images/ drawings of objects that the public use daily plus showing the audience an animated view of their sewage system, this is to create a imaginary world where everything in the themes should be looking like in the later years, by using animation they also show the audience all the horrible sides of the jobs which are to keep the water clean in London, this is so that the message comes across in a  more inspirational view. The representation of social groups for this corporate film would be C1, C2 and D. The reason of these social groups is because the corporate film is using a young working class student with the age of 15, by doing this she is able to connect to other working class helping them understand the environment they are living in, also this type of corporate film would have the representation of social class B as the majority of the public that live in the centre of London are middle upper class with the roles of managers and teaching.

Current Practice

The equipment that would be used when creating a corporate video are a Cannon 600D camera, when filming with the Cannon 600D camera you are able to capture a much more sharper picture rather than using a simple hand camera, for example when filming a corporate film for Oakdale School the team will be filming long and short sense to create cut a ways. Another piece of equipment would a tripod, when using a tripod you are able to change angles and the height that you will be placing the camera, also using a tripod whilst filming you are able to turn the camera a lot more smoothly without the camera jumping creating a steady shot. If you was to interview someone about the current events another type of equipment would me a H2 recorder or a mic this is so that you are able gather a much clearer recording of the voice or even the surroundings of the scene.

When creating a corporate film for an organisation that formats that you will need to be think about using when delivering your final piece to your client are Quick Time, also by using the format DVD you are able to hand over the disk of the production when you have finished your presentation. When using a hard drive when saving a copy of the production to hand into your client you are about to save a larger video depending on how big the GB is. Another format would be Youtube, with this type of format the production that you have create should be accessed within the internet at anytime for the client. you could also use a memory stick, this is another form of a hard drive. When creating a copy for your client of a corporate video you should download the production on at least three different formats so that if you were to lose one copy of the production there is another copy to be retained.

When creating a corporate film the techniques which would be used to make sure that the production runs smoothly as possible are cut a ways, match, for example if to the organisation was to use a jump cut this would show the audience the story moving along such as if the film was to be showing a young girl climbing up a hill, the scene would start with her at the bottom then it would jump to her reaching the middle of the hill then another jump cut to show the audience the young girl reaching the top of her goal. This technique can be used for an inspirational view that sends a powerful message. Another techniques which is to be used when creating a corporate film would be diegetic and non diegetic sounds, these are used to create emotion and emphasis on a scene for example if an actor on an interviewee was crying non diegetic sound would be added as a sound bed so that the audience are able capture the full feel of how that person if really feel causing then to feel the same. Voice over would be another technique which would be used when making a corporate film, such as is the corporate film was presenter lead when using the metaphor of the voice of God. When using voice of God in a corporate film it helps the audience understand the message that is being sent in more detail allowing them to acknowledge what is happening around them and how it could effect them.

Legal Issues

When taking to account of the privacy of actors or the members of public that might have been in view of the camera when cutting a scene, an actors release form should be signed with a signature allowing the camera crew and the production team to have them in the camera shot, if they do not agree the company would either have to shoot the sense again or sensor their faces so that the audience cannot make out who they are. If you were to show a production without their knowing the production could become in danger and have a law suite in their hands. Another example of this would be if you were to film a child playing or doing their work at school you would need a written legal document for the parent of that child to sign allowing the production to carry on with their permission.

The term libel is used when a company or an organisation has been given a false accusation against them which could harm their reputation. For example when creating a corporate film if an actor/actress has been humiliated in magazines for physically or mentally injuring themselves this could give the corporate production a bad image leaving the company creating the film with fraud for showing a false image to the public.

When creating a corporate video copyright can be an issue when film and editing the final cut of the film. Such as if you were to use music in the background of the production before embedding the music  you would have to buy a license for the music so the production is capable to use the song, if the organisation hasn't bought a music license there could be a law suit in place for copyright. Another example for copyright would be imagery in the background of a scene or a logo, such as if the audience were to witness a McDonalds sign in the film the production would have to pay a license for the logo to be seen within the film, if not the image would have to be blurred out so that the production wouldn't be  sued.

The laws and regulations when creating a corporate film are used to keep the production in order, these are rules that the production must follow so that the organisation is able to create a true understanding of a film. for example if you was to create a corporate film then the production needs to take in regards of the interviewees values such as if an interviewee agrees to be interviewed then they must sign and confirm on a legal document that their face and voice is allowed to be used within the production, this is so that there will be no misunderstanding when broadcasting the production, if that person hasn't signed an actor release form then the organisation will be broadcasting that person illegal without their consent.

Ethical issues

When creating a corporate production the organisation needs to put in consideration for gender, religion and race. If these ethical issues aren't put into play then when coming for create a corporate film it would cause legal issues to broadcast the production if it shows any discrimination towards any of these factors. For example if the corporate film was to show any biased or subjective opinions towards a religion in a racist fashion then this can be classed as discrimination causing the audience and the public to be offended by the production give false accusations, a corporate film should always show equality towards every member of the public.
